Up-and-coming J-pop singer ReoNa will take the stage with Daniel Powter next week at Billboard Live Tokyo, in a collaboration made possible through the powers of the internet and social media.
ReoNa is a 20-year-old Japanese artist who just launched her career as a professional singer. She voiced the singing part of the character Elza Kanzaki in the animated series Sword Art Online Alternative “Gun Gale Online” that began airing April 2018, then sang the ending theme of Sword Art Online Alicization called “forget-me-not” later that year. She has sold out every headlining concert since her debut less than a year ago, and is one of the next stars in J-pop.
The young singer uploaded a video of herself covering Powter’s “Bad Day” to YouTube around the end of January this year, which caught the attention of the Canadian musician himself. He responded by offering to “do a duet with her on stage with a different song” on his Facebook page and Instagram, which eventually led to the collaboration being set up for his concert at Billboard Live Tokyo on Monday, June 24.
The pair will be performing Powter’s single “Survivor” from his latest album Giants. The 48-year-old singer-songwriter has shared that he wrote “Survivor” based on his experiences being bullied growing up just because he played the violin, which resonated with ReoNa’s own struggles with bullying in the past.
