The Dutch DJ, winner of DJ Mag Top 100 DJs in 2017 and 2018, Martin Garrix, surprised his Chinese fans at Creamfields Hong Kong. The session planned by the Sony Music Asia team, intended to promote Martin Garrix’s Weibo page where his Chinese fan community is most active on.
A Weibo campaign looking for Martin Garrix’s top fans went out prior to the event. Several winners were invited to film and speak about their story of being a fan at the backstage, and they were extremely shocked when Martin Garrix showed up and greeted them all. The session ended with fans in tears of joy.
This is the first time an international artist has done such an act in China, and fans were ecstatic to see Martin’s kindness and appreciation to the Chinese fans who travel across the world to see his shows. Netizens commented with sentiments such as “This is the type of artist deserves our love”, “Welcome to China more often” “This video made a grown man cry”.
Martin Garrix has frequently toured China starting several years back, as his audience is growing rapidly. Top DJs including Alan Walker, Armin Van Buuren, Don Diablo, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, R3hab and Steve Aoki have also been visiting and focusing on developing within the China market. Many of them set up their Chinese social media pages to connect with the local Chinese fans, as international social media channels are not accessible.
Martin’s recent single “Dreamer” features Mike Yung, a subway singer who went viral, telling a story of pursuing your dreams. The message was considered a great example of how Martin achieved his success today through hard work and unyielding determination. His Chinese fans expressed that “it is not an easy journey for Martin, I have a lot to learn from him”.
