Clockenflap, Hong Kong’s biggest music and arts festival, upped the ante with an unforgettable second day of live performances and unique attractions at Central Harbourfront on Saturday.
Cultural icon and former Talking Heads frontman DAVID BYRNE left fans in raptures with a sublime 90-minute headline show that will be talked about for years to come, while former Pulp lead singer JARVIS COCKER with his new band JARV IS..., live electronic innovator CARIBOU and Grammy-nominated Malian duo AMADOU & MARIAM were among the other big names to perform.
Serving up a supremely diverse musical lineup that spanned a wide range of genres, styles and nationalities, the festival also hosted engrossing sets by breakout Japanese stars SUCHMOS, Trainspotting-author-turned DJ IRVINE WELSH, Canadian alternative R&B outfit RHYE, Taiwanese jazz/R&B chanteuse 9M88 and UK industrial techno trailblazer BLAWAN to name but a few.
In addition to six stages of music, Clockenflap also featured more than 30 immersive experiences and Instagram-worthy interactive attractions, including: THE EYE, a giant roving eyeball complete with blinking eyelid and glowing heart; BIRDMEN, a trio of huge luminous bird-like creatures that wandered among the crowd; PINKY DISCO, a mobile pedal-powered DJ booth on wheels; and PERI-PERISCOPE, an installation that provides a surreal amplification of the festival site’s dazzling lights and visuals.
Highlights for Day Three of the festival include the undisputed queen of neo-soul, ERYKAH BADU, US R&B sensation KHALID, Mercury Prize-winning alt-rock heroesWOLF ALICE, UK drum’n’bass pioneer RONI SIZE and raucous London garage rockers THE VACCINES.
