Kenshi Yonezu’s “Flamingo” rises 11-1 on the latest Billboard Japan Hot 100 dated Oct. 29 to Nov. 4 with 240,077 copies sold. The highly anticipated new release by the J-pop hitmaker dominated physical sales, look-ups, downloads, and radio airplay, while also gaining points through Twitter mentions (No. 2) and video views (No. 3) to shoot to the top spot on the Japan chart this week.

The song coupled with “Flamingo” as a “double-A” single, “TEENAGE RIOT,” bows at No. 4 this week, leading Twitter and coming in second for downloads. All told, the 27-year-old artist rules five metrics of the chart’s methodology this week.

The release of the “Flamingo” single has apparently sparked renewed interest in Yonezu’s back catalog, as he currently has ten songs charting on the Japan Hot 100--“Flamingo,” “Lemon” (No. 3), “TEENAGE RIOT,” “Gomenne” (No. 12), “LOSER” (No. 20), “Uchiage Hanabi” featuring DAOKO (No. 26), “Eine Kleine” (No. 37), “Peace Sign” (No. 48), “Haiiro To Ao” with Masaki Suda (No. 65), and “orion” (No. 77) --all fueled by download and video view points.

Singer-songwriter Aimyon also has multiple songs on the Japan Hot 100: “Konya Konomama”which debuted last week, drops 7-11 on the chart but rises 3-1 for streaming, while “Marigold” (No. 25), “Kimi Wa Rock Wo Kikanai” (No. 38), and “Ai Wo Tsutaetai Datoka” (No. 46) remain in the top 50. She differs from Yonezu in that her strength lies in streaming, and it’ll be interesting to see how her upcoming physical release of “Konya Konomama” on Nov. 14 affects the performance of her back catalog.

The Billboard Japan Hot 100 combines physical and digital sales, radio airplay, Twitter mentions, YouTube and GYAO! video views, Gracenote look-ups and audio streams from Apple Music, AWA, Google Play Music, KKBOK, LINE MUSIC, Rakuten Music, Recochoku provided by Gfk Japan, as well as streaming counts based on lyrics displayed on PetitLyrics.
