Oliver Heldens is definitely no stranger to House lovers and EDM festivals, and have earned his own stage at the likes of Tomorrowland and EDC. Being a part of the first EDC China, however, is definitely a new and different experience. This time Billboard Radio China sat down with this young talent at the backstage of EDC China 2018 at Shanghai and talked about his career, music and upcoming plans.

Produced countless hits, started his own label and recognized as the pioneer of the house genre, the 23-year-old talent shared his feelings of accomplishing this much at such a young stage in life. “I was very focused on making proper club music and did not expect it to explode like this”, expressed Oliver, “I was also very lucky to be brought up in the Netherlands and be exposed to music early on - I started producing since 12.” The Netherlands definitely possesses deep roots in dance music, witnessing big festivals since the early 90s and dance pioneers such as Martin Garrix, Hardwell and Afrojack.

One can also say 2013-2018 is the golden time of the rise of EDM on a global scene, especially in China, bringing in Ultra, EDC, Creamfields and also many music talents. “It’s definitely a nice challenge as the chinese crowd is way more unpredictable.” shared Oliver as his first EDC China experience, “It feels great to be a part of this phenomenon. I definitely did not think I will be performing in Asia years ago!”

When talking about his music and upcoming directions, Oliver believes there’s no one certain direction as everything’s possible. “I am working on some vocal projects and is also doing remixes of old tracks,” said Oliver, “I am also very inspired by 80s disco, African vibes etc. so there’s definitely much more to explore there as well.”
