Sam Feldt made an exciting return to the Spinnin’ stage at China’s Electric Jungle Music Festival. He doesn’t often get a chance to play in China and this gave the Dutch DJ a new market for his unique style of music. Being in China brought a level of excitement to his performance as he promotes his dual album Sunrise to Sunset. The compilation started as six tracks which then evolved into twelve, and finally became the dual album that’s available now. Billboard Radio China got a chance to catch up with Sam backstage at Electric Jungle to find out more about both albums, his entrepreneurial streak, and plans for 2018 and beyond.

Sam Feldt’s Sunrise to Sunset dual album is designed to be consumed throughout the span of twenty-four hours, twenty-four tracks for each part of the day representing the diversity of a day. One track for nine in the morning while another is designed for ten o’clock at night. Not all of these songs are pure originals though. Sam has taken on a number of tracks to cover and makes them his own. As a child of the 90s, the tracks he chose are anthems of his youth, songs with an emotional connection to his childhood and development as a DJ.  Sam explains that when he takes on these songs, it’s as important to him to keep a level of respect for the original material as it is to make his version unique and original. From Robin S’s Show Me Love and La Bouche’s Be My Lover to Eagle Eye Cherry’s Save Tonight and Kenny Rogers and The First Edition’s Just Dropped In (My Condition), Sam Feldt takes these old classics and turns them into a brand-new creation, a 21st century take on historical greats.
Sam Feldt isn’t just a DJ and producer though; he’s also a serious entrepreneur. The 24-year-old has developed his own social network, aimed exclusively at wrestling control of content away from tech giants and returning it to artists. Sam felt that the majority of social media platforms are seeing fan numbers increase while artist reach decreases, cutting down on the amount of content fans are seeing from their favourite artists. Called FanGage, it’s a platform that’s given him and a number of other DJs more flexibility in the way they share content and interact with fans. The platform has gamified content access, asking fans to provide more information or share things to access mixes or videos. FanGage even goes so far as to make the signup process look and feel like a direct text conversation with the artist, giving fans an even more direct sense of connection with their favourite artists. At present, a handful of DJs and producers are using the platform, but Sam promises that the next year should see a number of other artists from all different genres debuting their own spaces within the platform. 

Moving into 2018, Sam has many things planned for his fans. He’s slowly starting to work on a new album, scheduled to drop sometime in 2018. Meanwhile, his latest single, Wishing Well, came out in late November featuring Olivia Sebastianelli. The next six months see Sam travelling and touring in Brazil, Europe, and parts of the US. Asked what people in these upcoming countries expect from a Sam Feldt live show, he states, “my live shows are more than just a guy pushing buttons. You have the band, the action, the romance.” The last few years have been great for Sam Feldt, but 2018 promises more action and excitement for the young DJ. From sunrise to sunset, Sam Feldt is on his game.
